Implant Placement and Restoration

Dental Implant Surgery are the closest you can get to healthy, natural teeth. They allow you to live the way you want to – confidently eating, smiling, laughing, talking and enjoying all of your everyday activities without worrying about your teeth.

Dental Implant Surgery can be a smart choice for adults of all ages, whether you were born without a tooth or have had to have teeth removed due to injury, infection or decay. At Fresh Dental we can assess your own specific situation and determine if implants could be a good option for you.

Dental Implant Surgery have come a long way in the last 30 years. Although they have been around for this length of time it is only in the last 5-10 years that they have become more mainstream in treating various oral conditions. Originally used to help patients secure dentures in place their application has become much more broadened. Most people today know of someone who has implants or are familiar with what they are. Current applications for implants include securing dentures , replacing a single tooth or multiple teeth , or used to permanently secure teeth to the upper or lower jaws. Many patient who have been in full dentures for many years are now looking at implants to remedy the pitfalls of conventional full dentures. These pitfalls include loose mobile dentures that cause sores from rubbing on the gums to a general lack of chewing efficiency. By securing dentures to implants you can eliminate the mobility but also allow the patient to remove the dentures for cleaning. Another popular option is to permanently secure a denture to the implants so that only the dentist or denturist can remove the denture. This gives the patient a more natural sensation of teeth that more closely resemble their own natural teeth.

Many patients will opt for implants if they are missing one or just a few teeth. In these situations the new teeth are attached to the implants such that only the dentist can remove them. These implant crowns and bridge very closely mimic a patients natural teeth and can be a fantastic option for these patients. With the advancement of technology it will not be long where we can remove a tooth and place an implant and tooth all in the same appointment. This cuts down the treatment time for patients and can be a great service to patients especially if working in the esthetic area of the front teeth.

Fresh Dental has invested in new technology to help with the diagnosis and treatment of our implant patients. The purchase of a CBCT 3D xray unit allows us to accurately measure a patients bone volume in their jawbone. This gives us a much more precise indication of the suitability of the jaw for implant placement. All in all it provides a much more predictable and safe implant placement procedure for the patient.

As is required of other dental treatment and natural teeth it is important for patients to continue follow up at their dental office to maintain their implant health. Although the implants are high grade titanium they do still require care and attention from both the patient and the dental office. Implants can develop infection around them or over time lose bone support. The crowns may sometimes come loose and the denture attachments may occasionally need adjustments. All these conditions are easily picked up and remedied by the dental office when they are seeing the patient on a regular basis for hygiene visits and checkups. Even those patients with no remaining natural teeth and only implants still require the implants to be cleaned on a regular basis.
